Leonela Alejandro

The Triangle Guitar Society will host Puerto Rican guitarist and 2024 Guitar Foundation of America Grand Prize winner Leonela Alejandro on Saturday, May 2, 2026, 7 p.m. at The Church of the Good Shepherd.

Winner of the Rose Augustine Grand Prize in the 2024 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition, Leonela Alejandro is a classical guitarist from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and one of the most electrifying young artists performing today. The Guitar Foundation of America's International Concert Artist Competition is widely regarded as the most prestigious classical guitar competition in the world. Alejandro is currently on a celebrated GFA-sponsored 50-city tour that includes a debut at Carnegie Hall and her appearance with TGS. Reviewers called her "bold, unique, lyrical, virtuosic.”

Alejandro has been invited to perform at festivals and concert series throughout the United States and Europe, and has earned more than ten first-prize placements in competitions including the Louisville Guitar Festival, the Appalachian State Guitar Festival, the Columbus State University Guitar Symposium, the Indiana Guitar Festival, and the Chicago Guitar Festival. She has also performed as a concerto soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and has appeared on international stages in Spain, Germany, and Canada.
